If you are looking for a hotel in the wonderful Dachstein region with a high-end wellness garden, then you are absolutely right in the Falkensteiner Hotel Schladming [ad]. You won't be disappointed with the food either, because the kitchen is high quality and very tasty. Let yourself be surprised.
The hotel is located in the center of Schladming in the Austrian state of Styria. Despite its central location, the Falkensteiner is very quiet. The closest mountain railway - the Planai - can be reached on foot in ten minutes.
If you are arriving by car from Germany, take the A10 - Tauern motorway to the Altenmarkt exit and then the B320 to Schladming. You need a vignette for the motorway. We have summarized information about vignette and other general travel tips for Austria here.
The hotel is very spacious and spacious. The imposing entrance area in the style of an atrium warmly welcomes you. Reception staff will give you a very friendly welcome and tell you everything you need to know about the Falkensteiner Hotel in Schladming.
Directly after the entrance area is the modern dining area, where breakfast and dinner are served. In addition to a great terrace with a view of the lush green garden, this area also has small, separate side rooms.
If you leave the entrance hall in the other direction, you will reach the bar area, which has many stylish seating areas. The bar is full of high-quality spirits. The cocktail tastes particularly delicious in the nice outside area of the bar area, which is protected by many plants. The bar is also ideal for an aperitif before dinner. Be sure to try the house aperitif Falki-Spritz.
In the basement of the hotel you will find the huge SPA and wellness area, which is wonderfully flooded with light and pleasantly tempered inside. You can find more about this below in the activities.
In addition to the comfortable double bed, you will find an armchair and a sofa as additional seating.
Of course, there is also a flat screen TV, safe, coffee machine, bathrobe and slippers in the room. Our room was quiet and we really liked it overall.
In the hotel you should definitely enjoy the outstanding SPA and wellness area.
Sweat in a textile-free manner either in the Finnish sauna, in the bio sauna or in the steam sauna and then relax with a tea in the relaxation area in the hay or in the garden at the small natural pond.
Despite the relatively large number of rooms in the hotel, you can always find a place in the SPA area or - in summer - on the large lawn in the garden. The Aquapura SPA area covers a total of 1,500 square meters.
You shouldn't miss the massages either. Scan the QR code in the SPA area and choose the right massage from a wide range. You can trust classic massages with sounding names like mountain spring or mountain air or test the effectiveness of alpine medicinal plants like St. John's wort, birch, stone pine and arnica. In combination with traditional techniques such as hot stone, Lomi Lomi Nui or herbal stamps, this gives you pure relaxation. Report to the SPA reception about an appointment with sufficient advance notice. You will receive a reservation confirmation and will simply come back to the reception at the agreed time.
You can also choose from other treatments such as facials, manicures or pedicures, as does the well-equipped panorama fitness studio.
But there is also a lot to experience outside of the Falkensteiner Hotel in Schladming. If you are in the hotel in summer, get the Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card included in the stay and use many discounted or even free activities such as trips with the mountain railways in the area.
Be sure to plan a visit to the Dachstein massif with the glacier. Check out the weather forecast beforehand to have good weather. In summer you have to make a reservation for the gondolas online or through the hotel to take the gondola. So take the gondola up to the glacier and take a look at the Ice Palace. The airy suspension bridge up there is also breathtaking and a great photo opportunity. We can also recommend a short hike in the (hopefully) eternal ice. The view is magnificent and the 30-minute drive from the Falkensteiner Wellness Hotel in Schladming is definitely worth it.
Alternatively or in addition to the gondola ride on the glacier, we can only tell you positive things about the 30-minute hike to the south wall hut. A perfect place for a homemade, still warm blueberry curd strudel or a cool beer.
Of course you can also go hiking, biking or skiing in winter. In the hotel you can rent e-bikes and segways for eight euros an hour.
During our stay we had breakfast and dinner - half board - included.
Breakfast is offered in buffet form, with coffee specialties being served at the table after ordering. Start the day with a good dose of vitamins and squeeze out a delicious juice from oranges, ginger, carrots, apple, pears or other fruits and vegetables. There is a good selection of breads, rolls and sweet pastries at the buffet. Hearty and sweet spreads, sausage, cheese, nuts, muesli, yoghurt, as well as egg dishes and bacon are also available.
The breakfast is very tasty and we ate each morning well, but still ate well balanced. Wonderful.
Dinner comes as a 6-course menu of your choice: get antipasti, salad and bread from the buffet first. Then the efficient and friendly waiters serve you an appetizer at the table. The first evening we had beef tartare and cream cheese with nuts, mushrooms and herbs.
For course three you have the opportunity to get soup from the buffet.
For the main course you can choose from three dishes - meat, fish and vegetarian / vegan are always on offer. The dessert is also served at the table. Here you choose from two options.
"Cheese closes the stomach" is the well-known saying. I doubt whether this is really true from a nutritional point of view, but it is definitely delicious and the selection of cheeses together with delicious mustard variations from figs, truffles or apricots in the Falkensteiner is really great. I've skipped the soup for that. The quality of the prepared dishes was always very good. The quality of the ingredients left nothing to be desired.
If the season and weather permit, try to get a place on the terrace for breakfast and dinner. It's a little more private and quieter than in the dining room.
We really enjoyed the time in the Falkensteiner. The size of the hotel itself and in particular the SPA area inside and the garden outside make the considerable number of beds seem very pleasant, because it never really seems full. Finding loungers is no problem either. Therefore, we make a clear recommendation for the Falkensteiner Hotel in Schladming. We will be back.
