That's why we've been looking for a hotel that focusses on nature and puts at the center of its operations. Location and getting to this SPA hotel in Austria
The Edelweiss is located about two kilometers outside the Austrian village of Wagrain on the slopes of the mountains. From Wagrain, a small serpentine road goes up the hill until you reach the hotel at an altitude of 1,200 meters surrounded by cattle pastures and dense forests. The location is just fantastic.
If you come in winter, enjoy the direct connection to the ski slope and thus to the ski areas of Snowspace Salzburg.
If you´re arriving from northern direction of Salzburg, which is about 70 kilometers away, take the Tauern-Autobahn A 10. From the south, you´re arriving from Carinthia on the A 10 to the SPA hotel Edelweiss.
Facilities and design of the SPA hotel in Austria
The hotel has been around for over 60 years. One and a half years ago, the owners have completely renovated the hotel so that it now comes in new splendor and looks super nice.
They used natural materials from the region for the interior design. Quite a lot of wood and stone combine to create a noble alpine style. Themes of nature and mountains can be found everywhere inside. In addition to the built-in materials, small details and eye-catchers as well as pictures of venerable mountain chains remind you of where you are here ... and of course the magnificent view from the window.
The rooms are spacious. A large double bed, a comfortable sofa and a sweeping balcony with incredible views are just a few features of the rooms. Again, wood is the dominant material. Combined with carefully selected fabrics, this results in a classic, modern look.
Of course, you do not have to do without a flat screen TV with Sky, Wi-Fi in the whole hotel area and great organic shower gels and shampoos in the bathroom.
We were living in room number 116 on the first floor. This room has a great view of the surrounding mountains and the SPA area with the swimming pond.
The rooms come with a spacious wardrobe, a safe and hiking backpack, if you want to explore the area.
In our opinion the design highlight is the bar area with the lounge. We loved the unusual furniture. Also, in this area natural materials like wood, some leather and other great fabrics dominate. Really nice. The bar also appeals with its stylish design and high-quality spirits such as fruit brandies, rums and whisk(e)ys. Enjoy a freshly prepared cocktail in front of the large windows and observe the lights on the surrounding mountains in the dark.
This style also features the restaurant area and the terrace.
The dinner tables are set with highest precision. Small color accents and flowers or succulents are the icing on the cake.

If you are here to relax, you are in the right spot at the Green SPA of the Naturhotel Edelweiss. Now you're probably wondering what a Green SPA is. The SPA at this hotel was built in low energy construction, is heated by geothermal energy and all the materials used, are sourced from the region. During operation, the Green SPA of the Naturhotel Edelweiss causes 75% less CO2 emissions than a common SPA of comparable size. This is really awesome and unique. This is the only Green SPA in Austria and the first of its kind in Europe.
Here you can relax with a clear conscience and use the great saunas and the noble steam bath.
In the brochure of the SPA you can choose among many massages. Directly connected to the SPA area is the indoor pool with comfortable loungers, whirlpool function and a relaxation area.
Outside, there is still the crystal-clear swimming pond, which is fed from the spring water of the surrounding mountains. The temperature is not a shock, but really refreshing during hot summer days. Around the pond are small wooden plateaus, that provide space for a parasol and two comfortable loungers. Due to the generous planting of the outdoor area, each plateau has enough privacy.
Children are allowed to access the indoor pool and the swimming pool only at certain times, however, there is a children's pool, so even the smallest have their fun. If they do not feel like splashing anymore, there is a playground outside and two game rooms for bad weather at the SPA hotel Edelweiss in Austria.
If you are more of an active faction, romp in the gym with modern equipment. Cardio, exercises on mats or muscle building – whatever you feel like.
Of course, you can rent e-bikes at the Naturhotel Edelweiss or hike the mountains of the region. The nice staff at the front desk will be happy to advise you to find the perfect tour for you. Unique nature awaits you in the national park around the Tappenkarsee.
Culinary delights – Naturhotel Edelweiss Wagrain
The booking at Naturhotel Edelweiss is always inclusive of half board. This means that you can not only fill your stomach with breakfast and dinner, but also during the afternoon snack from 14:00 to 16:30 to satisfy the small appetite in between. Delicious fruit, sweet snacks such as cakes or savory as soup or cheese noodles are ready. Perfect to bridge the hours between breakfast and dinner.
A special mention is worth the breakfast in the Naturhotel Edelweiss, because it is an organic breakfast. All products come from regional and certified organic farming, so you can enjoy the excellent food without any concerns. Strengthen yourself with ripe fruits, a variety of cereals, yogurt, freshly prepared egg dishes and bread from local bakeries. Of course, there is also a good selection of cheeses, ham and salmon. There are freshly brewed coffee specialties, organic juices, teas or prosecco. The whole breakfast buffet was awesome and we really loved it very much.
The dinner at the Naturhotel Edelweiss is partly served in buffet style and partly at the table. Every evening there is a five-course menu. It begins with a starter from the buffet. During our stay it was once ham cream and once salmon tartare. Both were excellent. Next up is a salad selection from the buffet, as well as fresh bread and rolls. From here it is over with the work and you are served. Next course is a soup. You can always choose between clear broth and a cream soup from a seasonal vegetable. Next the main course is served, which in our opinion, every time was truly fantastic. You have the choice between meat dish, fish dish and vegetarian dish. We had mangalica pork and venison as meat options as well as salmon and trout for fish options. Both quality and cooking level as well as the taste of sauces and side dishes were delicious. Finally, a dessert will be served, which in our case has crowned a very perfect menu. We had Creme brulée, ice cream of blackcurrants and fruit salads, as well as sweet dumplings.
Have your dinner or breakfast in the restaurant or on the terrace depending. On weather conditions. When the house is fully booked and the weather is good for sitting outside, it's best to reserve a table for dinner on the terrace, as the outdoor seating is not enough for everyone.
It is very pleasing that the price level is also completely ok. A quarter of red wine for as low as six euros is really inviting, which is not the case everywhere.
It was also very pleasing that the owners took their time on Friday evening and invited all the guests to a Prosecco Rosé and a nice chat on the way to dinner. The Bergmüllers are present all the time and have a friendly word for the guests.
Conclusion
The atmosphere in the entire Naturhotel Edelweiss is very positive. As already mentioned, this is to a large extent due to the owners positive attitude. But all employees do a great job, are always up for a nice chat - be it in German or English - and practice excellent service.
This friendly atmosphere coupled with the outstanding environment and the unique focus on sustainability, which incidentally has already led to many awards and certificates, has given us a unique stay in this wonderful SPA hotel in Austria. We would love to come back for skiing in winter.
