The WASNERIN [ad] is located in the Ausseerland in Styria and is part of the Salzkammergut. Bad Aussee is about 80 kilometers from Salzburg and 160 kilometers from Graz. Both cities have an international airport where you can fly to.
By car you cross the beautiful Salzkammergut from the north and Styria - the green heart of Austria.
Of course you can also arrive by train - Bad Aussee has a train station.
Located in the middle of the northern Limestone Alps, the WASNERIN offers a great view of the Dachstein massif and the Dead Mountains.
The hotel is located just outside Bad Aussee and next to a golf course. Heavenly quiet and beautiful set in an awesome area.
The theme of the hotel is literature. The theme runs through the whole house and is found around every corner. But it probably reaches its peak in the rooms. We stayed in the sigh suite, which has "comic" as its motto. Countless comic books in the bookshelves, comic letterings as wall tattoos and lovely designed details throughout the whole suite. The decor of the room is really nice and small details like coffee maker, fruit basket and an old desk make it really enjoyable to spend time there. The room also has a large balcony overlooking the golf course and of course the mountains.
Outside the rooms, the generally accessible areas are lovingly furnished.
The reception with lobby is very inviting. Through the - up to the second floor - open gallery, everything seems very generously designed.
The bar is located halfway between the pool and restaurants. Here also the afternoon snack is offered from the buffet. The selection of spirits is very appealing. Several Austrian fruit spirits as well as rum, whiskey and gins are on the shelves of the WASNERIN bar. Yes, even their own gin creation based on the recipe of the WASNERIN is on the shelf. Not to forget the roof terrace bar with the telling name "infinity bar".
On the gallery floor above the bar, the lounge with billiard table and library is located. This area should be very much in demand especially in winter, because the great stove makes it cozy and warm and board games like Halma and chess drive the time.
The restaurant area also fits into the picture in design terms. Everything is perfectly coordinated here and supports you while enjoying your time out in the mountains. During good weather, you can enjoy breakfast and dinner on the quiet terrace in the lovely garden.
Overall, a lovingly designed alpine-style hotel awaits you with many details and little touches. You will love it.
You won't get bored during your active holidays in Austria at the WASNERIN.
Even before breakfast, you can start your day with yoga. Be it on the roof terrace, on the Altausseersee, on the Grundlsee or on the mountain. The lovely yoga coaches cater all levels of experience so everyone can join. In addition to the morning yoga, you can participate during the day and in the evening at other activities such as Aerial Yoga or Tai-Ji. Just as there is a wake-up yoga session every morning, at the end of the day the WASNERIN offers you 90 minutes of yoga to come down in the activity and exercise room.
During the day there are many exciting and daily changing offers such as guided hikes or mountain bike tours available. On Saturday evening you can participate in a tasting of regional wines.
We decided on an e-bike tour and visited the Altausseer Lake (be careful, you can not completely circle it with the bike), the Grundlsee and the famous Toplitzsee. For us, it was the first time driving an e-bike and it was amazing. We covered really many kilometers and descended dewy from the bike in the evening. We recommend you to visit these three lakes during your active holidays in Austria. These deep crystal clear mountain lakes, framed by steep cliffs and rugged mountain slopes – just amazing. The scenery is truly breathtaking. The rented e-bikes were in top condition and technically up to date. Three hours cost 15 €, one day costs 30 € per bike.
Of course, the hotel is also great for golfers, just because of its proximity to the golf course, but since we are not golfers, we leave the subject.
In the Wasnerin, there is also a spacious recreation and SPA area with the name NABEL. The SPA. Several saunas, a nice steam bath and a saunarium offer everything you need for a relaxing break from your activity holidays in the mountains. The relaxation areas on the top floor and the panoramic rooftop terrace, including a diverse selection of teas will make you float away. At least that's what happened to us. The design highlight, however, is the outdoor area with stone pine sauna, large jacuzzi, showers and extremely comfortable loungers.
In the SPA itself, you can expect large variety of cosmetic treatments such as orange-seasalt peeling, herbal scrub, after-sun treatment or aloe vera treatments just to name a few.
All available activities can be taken from the WASNERIN time-out program.
Between the main house – containing the restaurant, the rooms and the reception - and the annex building - which houses the spa areas – the pool area is embedded in a kind of patio. The area offers a large and a small outdoor pool and super comfortable lounge chairs. Due to the proximity to the adjacent bar, it is advisable to end the afternoon with a cocktail or a beer. If you spend your active holidays in Austrian during the colder months, you are always welcome to opt for the inddor pool as this one is nicely temperature and heated. It is also pleasing that you can stay in the room until 12:00 on the day of departure. Compared to the competitioners 12:00 is really generous. After check-out you can spend the afternoon at the pool or in the SPA until 8 p.m. Class!
Otherwise, maybe it is interesting that there is the Dachsteincard for free for if you stay for three or more nights.
Generally, we would like to express our enthusiasm for the Austrian cuisine as such. The focus on quality and regionality in all ingredients and products is truly unique. In no other of the countries we have traveled so far, we found this enthusiasm for quality and regionality.
Of course, this focus on quality and regionality can also be found in the kitchen of the Wasnerin in a very special way. The first page of the menu card lists the regional suppliers.
At the reception, the very friendly front desk staff welcomed us with a glass of very delicious in-house champagne WASNERIN Edition.
Breakfast is served buffet style. Start the day with home-made jams, delicious pastries from local bakeries, delicious coffee variations, freshly squeezed juices and smoothies or egg dishes prepared to your taste. Enjoy different ham or cheese variations or try the outstanding smoked Austrian salmon trout. We loved the breakfast.
In the afternoon there is a small snack with cake, soup and salads. The motto is more healthy and vital in the afternoon - just perfect to avoid hunger and light enough to keep the anticipation for dinner high.
The dinner is served in a menu style, which distinguishes the WASNERIN from many of their competitors. The quality of buffet meals per se cannot match that of an á la minute prepared menu. Crucial in our opinion are the cooking points of meat, vegetables, pasta and rice. A buffet is easier to set up and organise, but the kitchen of the Wasnerin takes on the challenge of serving a perfect menu at your table and it's worth it. The menu was of outstanding quality during our time at the hotel. All cooking points were perfectly hit and the taste was amazing. After a four-course menu, a very diverse selection of cheeses awaits the guests. From mild to strong and spicy, everything was there.
We felt completely comfortable. Two nights are definitely too short to join all offers of the Wasnerin. On our next visit, we would like to stay longer and continue to test the offers in the hotel and explore the beautiful area even further. If we should highlight three things, it would be the SPA, the amazing food and the landscape, in which the Hotel WASNERIN is located.
Have a look at the website of the WASNERIN. Because there you will certainly find the right offer for your active holidays in Austria.
