Location and arrival - Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach
Its location is the largest pledge of Alohilani Resort in Honolulu. Located right on the beachfront on Waikiki Beach, the hotel stands out for its location and unbelievable views of the world's most famous beach.
Fly in directly to Oahu from Japan, US Mainland, Fiji and some other destinations.
When you arrive at Honolulu Airport, it's best to take a rental car. Most rental car providers can be found just outside the airport. The shuttle bus from your rental car provider will take you there. Just follow the signs at the exit of the airport.
The traffic on Oahu - also in the big city Waikiki - is quite decent and is limited. Driving in Hawaii is generally very “hang loose” and you tend to let each other drive rather than insist on your right of way.
So taking a rental car from the airport to Alohilani is the best option in our opinion. Depending on the traffic, plan about 30 minutes to reach the hotel.
It's best to get a SIM card at the airport to navigate to the hotel via Google Maps. Honolulu International provides unlimited free WiFi to its guests. Alternatively, download the Hawaii maps of the App Maps.Me before arrival.
Of course, you can also take one of the many bus companies or a taxi to get to the hotel.
Equipment and design - Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach
When you arrive at the hotel by car, first drive into the covered forecourt, which resembles a large Roman portico. There you can unload your luggage and either park your car in the garage (US $ 40 per day) or enjoy valet parking (US $ 45 per day). This seems to be quite expensive for European conditions, but in the US and especially in Hawaii, this is business as usual.
The lobby and public areas are really huge and covered in marble.
In the entrance area, there is a gigantic aquarium with all sorts of colorful reef fish and artificial corals.
The lobby area is decorated in a very tastefully and modern manner and invites you to linger.
Matching the aquarium, the entire design revolves around the theme “sea and beach” without being cheesy, which can easily happen on this topic.
The design also continues in the rooms. In combination with the view from the balcony on Waikiki Beach, you feel something like in a beach condo.
We had a room with direct ocean view, which was actually the highlight of our room.
The bathroom is nicely equipped with sink, shower and toilet with some automatic functions as is common in some parts of Asia. This may be due to the high proportion of Japanese guests in Hawaii and also in Alohilani.
Look forward to high quality bathroom products such as body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel based on aloe vera.
If you need to iron your clothes after unpacking your bags, you will find everything necessary in your room.
A small balcony, which invites to relax and watch the bustle at Waikiki Beach, is available.
If the weather is bad - which is rare in Hawaii - you can pass the time with the large 60 inch Smart TV.
The only negative aspect of the room was, that the noise isolation to the hallway is quite bad. The doors of the rooms are designed to swing into the locks automatically. So every time your neighbors use their doors, you will wake up.
Otherwise, the rooms are designed with great attention to detail. Beautiful flowers are arranged on the beds, when you return in the evening from your trip, pool or from the sea.
A nice little gimmick are the containers for refilling drinking water to reduce plastic consumption. Keep being sustainable.
Activities
The Alohilani Resort offers a tennis court, a yoga deck and a modern SPA.
The Alohilani Resort also offers a spacious pool area with infinity pool towards Waikiki Beach for sunset. On Sunday there was even a DJ on site, who played cool lounge music - in a volume that allows relaxation and recovery.
In addition to the large pool area, there is also a small paddling pool for children, so adults can relax without cries of children and the little ones do not have to show consideration for the adults.
Order refreshments and snacks from the Swell Pool & Bar while enjoying the sun of Hawaii on one of the many comfortable loungers and cabanas.
If the sweet idleness gets too boring, then try some Hawaiian tradition and make your own lais or learn the hula dance.
On the ground floor of the hotel, there are a few shops like the ABC store, some tour operators and jewelry shops.

Culinary - Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach
At Alohilani, we only had breakfast at the Lychee restaurant ($ 33 per adult). The price does not include coffee specialties such as cappuccino etc. Only filter coffee is included.
Otherwise, the breakfast is really good. Some Asian dishes as well as fruits - such as melon, pineapple and grapes are available.
Cereals and a great selection of sweet pastries, egg benedict and crispy bacon. The chef will gladly prepare any egg dish, your heart desires.
If you do not feel like eating a lot in the morning, have a bite in the bistro next to the aquarium with a cup of coffee overlooking the impressive fishes.
Conclusion to the Alohilani Resort
The Alohilani was our starting point in Hawaii and has really amazed us. Especially the equipment of the rooms, the great view from the balcony and the infinity pool are really cool. But the stand out is the great location right on the world famous Waikiki Beach.
We really liked the hotel and would come back. You will enjoy some amazing days here and compared to the extremely high price level in Hawaii, Alohilani Resort offers a good return, which is not self-evident in Hawaii.
