The Hotel Schloss Mittersill is located in the beautiful Salzach Valley with a view of the town of Mittersill. Surrounded by the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Kitzbühel Alps on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol, the majestic estate sits enthroned on a hill above the village.
The journey from Munich and Salzburg takes about two hours each by car. Of course there are enough parking spaces available for all guests. On arrival you will be warmly welcomed with a glass of Prosecco in the castle bar. Check-in is quick and easy and your stay with an overnight stay in the castle can begin.
The design of the castle is very coherent. A lot of instinct was required for this, because it was certainly a dance on a tightrope to preserve the time-honored atmosphere of the castle and at the same time to offer future hotel guests modern facilities.
The whole hotel is peppered with original, historical or authentic-looking furniture, floors and paintings. At every nook and corner you will find small and large highlights that make you speculate about their origin and history.
The hotel has a total of 54 rooms. Choose the right room for you from individually designed individual pieces. The design captivates with a mixture of antique furniture and modern technology. You certainly won't have to do without anything during your overnight stay in the castle.
Our room was very spacious, had windows on three sides with a view of the mountains, the Salzach and the castle courtyard. An extremely comfortable bed under a skylight let us sleep like on cloud nine. A wardrobe, a desk, a sofa with a comfortable armchair and a flat screen TV leave nothing to be desired. Wardrobe, safe and laundry service are of course also available. The toilet is separate from the spacious bathroom with wash basin, free-standing bath and separate glass shower. There is also a nice balcony with a small seating area and a great view of the town of Mittersill and the mountains. The ambience in the rooms is really second to none.
The whole castle is really beautifully angled as you imagine such an old building. There are many small secret rooms or large halls like the witch room or the Bob Hope room. The inner courtyard of the castle is also a feast for the eyes with photogenic places at every nook and corner. In any case, discover the small chapel and the large tower behind.
In addition to an overnight stay in the castle, the hotel's SPA is also a reason why guests come. The SPA area was retrofitted to the outside of the old castle wall, so that you are always reminded where you are in the SPA. A year-round heated outdoor pool, relaxation rooms with very comfortable loungers indoors and a large lawn in the garden let everyone find their place.
Relax in the textile-free area in the steam bath or in the infrared cabin. We also really enjoyed the bio sauna, but especially the Finnish sauna outside. There is even a sauna that can only be rented privately. After sweating, you can relax in front of the large panoramic windows in the relaxation rooms with a hot cup of tea. Of course you can also book massages and other treatments. Let us advise you in the SPA area or the reception.
If you need a little more exercise, take a look at the gym on the first floor.
Inform yourself on arrival about the date for the next castle tour, because there you will find exciting stories and anecdotes about the history of the castle and its residents and guests. Even the secret places with the best view may be hidden from you without a guide.
In the area around Mittersill Castle you will also find excellent opportunities to pass the time that crown the night in the castle. The high Tauern and Kitzbühel Alps make the heart of every hiker beat faster. At check-in, the friendly staff at the reception will provide you with enough information about the hikes and highlights of the area. About an hour's drive away is the legendary high alpine road up to the Grossglockner - Austria's highest mountain. Check out the remains of the famous glacier there before it's too late.
The Krimml Waterfalls are definitely worth a trip. You can find the thundering waterfalls about 30 minutes by car from the Hotel Schloss Mittersill. Entry costs four euros for an adult. Parking costs around five euros for three hours per car. You can reach the first viewpoint from the parking lot after a five-minute walk. From here, too, the waterfall is very impressive and offers great photo opportunities - even if the fine spray can turn into a shower depending on the wind. Now you can follow the cascades of the waterfall upwards on well-developed hiking trails. The further you ascend, the fewer other people are of course on site. Do not miss out on this one. We installed the Krimml Waterfalls as a stopover on the way home.
The excellent restaurant at Mittersill Castle is divided into several small and large vaults, rooms and parlors. We really liked the Gothic room with its large historical window front. Both breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant area. In good weather you can of course also eat in the enchanting castle courtyard. The tables are always elegantly set and the waiters are very attentive.
But now from the beginning: You can have breakfast in the old walls of the Mittersill Palace between 07:30 and 10:30. Help yourself at the lavish buffet and put together a selection of rolls, bread or pretzel sticks. There is also salmon, sausage, cheese, vegetables, fruit and a nice selection of muesli and yoghurts. Much of it from regional production. You don't have to do without delicious cakes and sweet pastries either. Coffee specialties, tea, smoothie and juices are served to you at the table as well as freshly baked waffles and pancakes. On Sunday we had Prosecco and Bavarian white sausages on request. The quality of the breakfast was excellent, so that we started the day powerfully and healthy every morning.
In the evening, however, the hooded kitchen of the Mittersill Castle shows its full potential. Every evening you get a four-course menu of your choice as part of the half-board option. After ordering the drinks, where you can get competent advice from the waiter on request, homemade sourdough bread comes to the table with a small selection of creams or dips first hunger satisfies. A poem. For starters you can choose from three options. For example, we had salmon tartare, venison saddle, kofta, mushroom jelly or beetroot and raspberry salad. Then you can choose from two soups. Here, too, we only had very good creations. For the main course, you can choose from a meat, fish and vegetarian option. We mostly had meat or fish. The lamb in particular was sensationally good. The choice of side dishes was always perfectly coordinated. The composition on the plates was also visually very enjoyable. The dessert selection consisted of two sweet variations and a small cheese plate. Buchteln, blueberry dumplings, buttermilk tarts. To put on. The menu was in a class of its own every evening. The dishes were technically and qualitatively excellently prepared. The typical Austrian focus on regional products tops the enjoyment. The cuisine in the restaurant is definitely worthy of the royal experience of an overnight stay in the castle.
We immersed ourselves in the wonderful world of Hotel Schloss Mittersill for a weekend and lived our childhood dream of an overnight stay in the castle. A dreamlike setting, ultimate cuisine and a great SPA to relax make your stay at Hotel Schloss Mittersill an oasis to recharge your batteries and relax. Our impression was consistently positive and makes us dream of the next night in the castle.
