Location and arrival

The Grand Hyatt San Francisco is located on Stockton Street right on Union Square, making it absolutely Downtown San Francisco.

From San Francisco International Airport, the best way to get to Grand Hyatt San Francisco is by public transport. At the airport, take the Skytrain to BART Station and go directly to Powell Street, from where you can walk to the hotel in five minutes. See our San Francisco travel guide for more information about BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation).
Alternatively, take a rental car, taxi or Uber to get to the Grand Hyatt. Parking is quite a tricky thing in San Francisco. Parking space is either rare or expensive.

The location of the Grand Hyatt San Francisco is really amazing.
You'll reach bustling China Town by foot in five minutes, Little Italy with its bars and restaurants in about ten minutes to walk.
Allow about half an hour to get to Fisherman's Wharf. There you will find Pier 39 with its funny sea lions and the small amusement mile. Even the boats to Alcatraz depart there.
At Union Square, there is a stop for city tours (Hop on Hop off buses).
Find all sorts of shops, boutiques and department stores like Macy's, Apple or Victoria's Secret within walking distance from Grand Hyatt.

As you can see, the Grand Hyatt San Francisco is really great for all sightseeing and shopping activities.

Equipment and design

When you enter the hotel, you will first see the impressive lobby with its many comfortable sitting areas, the fireplace and the library. Of course, reception is staffed around the clock. The staff there was always very friendly and helpful.
On the day of departure, we were allowed to store our luggage after check-out until evening.
In the lobby of the hotel, there is also a small shop with excellent coffee, pastries and cold drinks.

On the second floor you will find the restaurant of the Grand Hyatt San Francisco called OneUp. We did not test it, but it is well recommended and looks very inviting.

On the 32nd floor, find the Grand Club Lounge, to which you have access, when booking certain room types. Really awesome is, that you can have breakfast and dinner there. Except alcoholic drinks, everything is included here.

For breakfast, there was a variety of sweet pastries, toasted bagels with cream cheese and salmon. We also tried all kinds of cereals and fruits. A small selection of juices, juicy porridge and coffee and tea were available. Even delicious cappuccino at no extra charge. A rarity in America.

From 5 pm to 7 pm, small snacks such as hummus, pita bread, various delicious salads, raw vegetables and pickled vegetables are served. They're preparing one warm meal every evening. We had spaghetti with tomato sauce & meatballs and Thai curry with chicken and rice the other day. Otherwise, look forward to, baguette, cheese, dried fruit and nuts. Treat yourself with cocktails as well as beer and wine (four dollars each). As already mentioned, water and soft drinks are included in the room price. Coffee and tea specialties, can be tapped throughout the day.

From 7:30 pm, the lounge offers desserts. Tarts, nuts and cookies are ready for snacking. The lounge is really cool and offers exceptional views of the bay with Alcatraz and completely downtown.

But now the most important feature of a hotel - the rooms. We had a king room with view of Union Square and lounge access.

The room was very spacious and elegantly furnished. The windows facing Union Square let us enjoy a nice view over the entire area. The huge window made the room very bright and inviting. In front of the window was a comfortable armchair with a small table from which we observed the ice-skaters on Union Square in the evening. The windows can be closed with an automatic shutter, when it gets dark. A really great feature. In the room you'll enjoy a very large flat screen TV.

Find iron and ironing board in the room. Very helpful after a long flight.

In the bathroom, you will find a marble vanity and a very large shower. Of course, there are high-quality shower items such as shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and body lotion, which is replenished even after use.

We arrived early in the morning as we had a night flight and were able to leave our luggage at the reception. Until our room was ready, we first got a coffee at Starbucks and then explored the area on foot. When our room was ready, we were notified by SMS from the hotel and were able to move in our room well before the normal check-in time. That really saved us after the exhausting journey.

Activities at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco

The gym of the hotel is really well equipped. A sufficient number of ergometer bikes, steppers and treadmills let the pounds tumble. Also, dumbbells, weights and other equipment ensure proper sweat on the forehead.
Find a scale, in order to control your success.
There's also a water cooler in the gym, so you're always well taken care of.
The most amazing thing about this gym is once again the great view of the skyscrapers of San Francisco.

Kathrin was in San Francisco already four times, Dominik never before. We just sat down for a day on the Hop on Hop Off Bus and drove to the most famous sights.

Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz are well known. We discovered Haight-Ashbury, where the Summer of Love began in the late 1960s. Even today the spirit of this time is still in the air. Literally.

Otherwise, it is in San Francisco just drift. Explore the city, if possible by foot. You will not regret it.
