Kuno Villas on Gili Trawangan - A eco resort in Indonesia
We have already reported about our impression and our travel tips for Gili Trawangan. So we were looking for a nice little boutique hotel on the quiet side of Gili Trawangan and came across the Kuno Villas [ad]. The design in the pictures and the perfect location of the Eco Resort in Indonesia immediately appealed to us.
LOCATION OF KUNO VILLAS
The Kuno Villas, which means “antique houses”, are located about 150 meters from the beach to the rear. This means that the sea can be reached on foot in one minute, but it is still really great and, above all, it is quiet.
You can get to the Kuno Villas from the beach road via a small cul-de-sac. Signs to the hotel hang on every corner. You will find it without problems.

Equipment and design in the eco resort in Indonesia
The design of the Kuno Villas is particularly outstanding. We stayed three nights in a joglo villa. All buildings and furniture in the Eco Resort are made from recycled materials. Be it from sunken ships that capsized on the reef in front of Gili, from 150-year-old traditional Javanese houses or from other recycled materials. The small resort consists of six poolside villas and three large villas, each with its own pool and several bedrooms.
The staff is super friendly and helpful and perfect in English. The lovable fairy and Akri deserve special mention. During our stay at the Kuno Villas there were also two hotel cats roaming the complex and cuddling with the guests.
The concept focuses on a sustainable approach with which the owners operate the resort. In addition to the use of recycled materials in the construction of the plant, it has its own seawater desalination plant, its own bio sewage treatment plant and a compost, so that the impact on the island and the environment as such is kept to a minimum. The staff at the boutique hotel or Rina - the owner of Kuno Villas - will be happy to tell you about the concept and the measures they are taking to protect the environment. The feeling for sustainable tourism is slowly but surely developing on the Gili Islands, after the island had to suffer a lot from unchecked tourism in recent years.
Immediately after the reception, which forms something like the imaginary entrance gate to the screened and very private guest area, there is an extremely cozy lounge and living area with sofas and tables and an open outdoor kitchen. The à la carte breakfast is also served in this area. Immediately afterwards is the pool with a tropical waterfall and the six pool villas.
In the villas there is a large queen-size bed, a small lounge / seating area in the bay window, a dreamlike and view-protected outdoor bathroom with toilet, rain shower and large double washbasin.
The highlight, however, is that the outdoor bathroom is built on a pedestal in a small fish pond. The shampoos and shower gels are designed so that they do not affect the fish. We love these shower gels and the other bathroom amenities at Kuno Villas so much that we bought a supply for home at the small shop next to the reception.
There is a small glass with fish food next to the toilet. Everything is really well thought out here and there are small refinements on every corner that put a smile on your face.
Each villa has a small private spot by the pool.
It is an extremely comfortable double lounger with umbrella, which is protected from view by many tropical plants.
There are several sunbathing areas in the pool, which are a few centimeters under water.
ACTIVITIES AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES
The pool is the center of the area and really dreamlike. Enjoy a refreshing cooling in the midst of a sea of blossoms of frangipani, croton and other fragrant flowers and shrubs. The feeling of paradise is rounded off by a splashing waterfall at the end of the pool.

In any case, borrow the bikes from the Kuno Villas. The wheels are in good shape and great to drive. You don't necessarily need bikes to get to the busy side of Gili Trawangan, but you save a lot of time and sweat compared to running. In the east of Gili Trawangan you will find a large selection of tour providers and dive shops.
You can also take part in yoga classes to really get down on vacation and increase relaxation.
Alternatively, try your hand at kayaking or a stand-up board and take a trip to the neighboring islands of Gili Meno and Gili Air. Of course, you can also rent snorkeling equipment from the hotel or take surf lessons.
If you prefer to take it easy, think about an Indonesian cooking class or romantic horse riding on the beach.
In any case, you won't get bored at Kuno Villas.
CULINARY OFFER IN THE ECO RESORT IN INDONESIA
When you book a room at Kuno Villas, you always have breakfast with you. Delicious coffee from the barista machine, fruity tea and a good selection of fresh fruit juices are just as much part of the breakfast as an a la carte selection of really good tropical or classic breakfast variations. Here is a small selection: Indonesian fried noodles, pancakes with blueberries, berry smoothie bowl, tropical fruits with muesli in pineapple or homemade bagels with avocado and eggs.
The breakfast is presented in a modern and creative way, so that the mouth wateres.
Even for the small hunger in between, the Kuno Villas offers its guests a fine selection of delicious dishes. In the evening you simply choose one of the restaurants near the villas. Many are within walking distance.
OUR CONCLUSION ON THE ECO RESORT KUNO VILLAS
We have had four wonderful days at Kuno Villas and can recommend the boutique hotel without restriction. The design and the privacy factor stand out. Simply heavenly quiet and with lots of attention to detail, the Kuno Villas enchanted us. We would love to come back again.
